A Florida man in his 40s, following a meat, fat, and dairy-heavy diet, showed up at a Tampa hospital with yellowish, oozing nodes on his palms, elbows, and feet.
He told doctors he had been on a strict “carnivore diet” for eight months, consuming sticks of butter, 6-9 pounds of cheese, and hamburger patties daily. While he lost weight and felt more energetic, his skin condition worsened.
Doctors found his cholesterol had skyrocketed to over 1,000 mg/dL—far beyond the healthy limit of 200 mg/dL. Before his diet, his cholesterol ranged from 210 to 300 mg/dL.
